Most deck stains need at least 24 hours of dry weather after application before they can handle rain. Some products require up to 48 hours for full cure, especially in high humidity conditions.
We always check the weather forecast before starting and won’t begin your project if rain is expected within that timeframe. Michigan weather can change quickly, so we also keep tarps available as backup protection. If unexpected light rain occurs, it usually won’t cause major damage, but a heavy downpour can wash away uncured stain and create uneven coverage that requires redoing sections.
The drying time also depends on temperature and humidity. Cool, humid conditions slow the process, while hot, dry weather can actually cause problems by making the stain dry too quickly on the surface before it penetrates properly.
